Hitchcock ISD Education Foundation Presenter: Dr. Barbara Derrick Superintendent of Schools

What is the Hitchcock ISD Education Foundation?  A 501 (c) (3) public non-profit corporation, established in 2014, that exists solely to benefit the public school system in Hitchcock, Texas  Led by a Board of Directors representing a cross-section of our community  Benefits Hitchcock ISD by supporting activities typically not funded by tax dollars  Fosters creative approaches to education through private grants and private sector donations

What is the Mission of the Hitchcock ISD Education Foundation ? The Hitchcock ISD Education Foundation will provide resources to enrich teaching, inspire learning and enhance opportunities for all students enrolled in the Hitchcock Independent School District.

What are the goals of the Hitchcock ISD Education Foundation ?  Encourage all students to work to their highest potential  Support staff for innovative efforts  Recognize exemplary teaching  Build community awareness of the Hitchcock ISD Education Foundation  Inspire parents and community members to participate with the school district in enriching teaching

Why was the Foundation created?  Obtain alternative sources of private sector funding for the District  Provide funds beyond the normal operating budget for educational programs and activities for students and staff  Created in 2014 by interested citizens who believed in community support of education

How is the Foundation organized? The Foundation, at capacity, will have 27 elected directors who will serve three year terms. In addition, the Superintendent of Schools and a representative of the Hitchcock ISD Board of Trustees will serve on the board as voting members. Directors will include local business owners, community leaders, active and retired school personnel and interested parents.

What will the Foundation fund?  Innovative teaching grants  Special needs of students  Staff development  Professional development scholarships  Student scholarships  Student-teacher recognition programs  School-community partnership programs  Permanent endowment fund

How can you assist the Foundation ?  General cash donations  Pledged donations  Matched giving through your company or employer  Planned giving through wills, trusts, life insurance and estate planning programs  Stocks and bonds  Support of Foundation’s special events  Establishment of endowed scholarships  Donation of your invaluable time and service
