In recent years, ‘sports tourism’ became an important tourism type. Especially those countries who are aware of becoming the host of big sports organizations resulting in country promotion and economic income, are in serious competition! Also, in order to spread tourism to whole year/12 months, countries develop alternative tourism types; such as health tourism, religious tourism, congress tourism and sports tourism. Olympic soul plays big role! We are here where it all started! Greece! Greeks used to travel to participate in Antic sports games in 900 BC. Big sports events cost a lot but gains are big! Destination promotion, image, incomes… Turkey’s promotion efforts: For multi games and championships; media, advertisements, ads, promotional materials, billboard ads…

AN EXAMPLE Erzurum Winter UNIVERSIAD, 2011

25thWinterUniversiade Erzurum is the biggest winter sports organization held in Turkey. EWU 2011, 7 snow sports, 4 ice sports have been accomplished. During the 25 th WU Official website had total visitors. 67 interactive kiosks have been placed and have been used 22,852 times. Appeared 1108 times in national press and 662 times in local media. 3 Marketing Teaser Films and 1 advertising film were produced and sent to national and international media 2 months prior to the Games. 12 Episodes of EWU documentary raised awareness in winter sports volunteers worked before and during EWU. Opening and Closing Ceremonies were operated with people. The total cost of OCC was 6.5 million Euros. It was broadcasted live to 82 countries. Need of human resources increased rapidly as the event approached and the peak time of workforce was the Opening ceremony with people.
