Justice in Of Mice and Men AO1-Respond to text critically, imaginatively. AO2-Language,Structure and Form. AO4-Historical,Social Content.

What is Justice  Justice = The quality of being fair and reasonable. However, Justice, in the traditional cowboy terms, is not easily served. Events in the novel indicates that incidents occurred because characters may have deserved given treatment such as Death of Curley’s wife.

Chapter 1 “ Well look Lennie if you jus happen to get in trouble like you always done before, I want you to come right here and hide in the brush. “Oh sure. I remember. In Weed” Foreshadowing Could be a way of telling the reader that Lennie could cause trouble. Hiding from Justice, if trouble occurs also escaping from treatment. Makes the reader think of what incident happened in weed.

Chapter 2 “Don’t you even take a look at that Bitch... I seen ‘em poison before..I never seen no piece of jail bait worse than her” “I'm scared I’m gonna tangle that bastard myself” Connation of subtle danger. Possible death. Curleys wife can be seen to be evil and manipulative. Imperative George helping to prevent Lennie to get in trouble. Shows the treatment Curley deserves for the way he treats the ranchers.

Chapter 3 George tells Slim about the incident in weed. Reference to Chapter 1. “He seen this girl in a red dress…he couldn’t let go…this girl squawks and squawks …the guys in weed start a party of lynch Lennie” Shows the Justice of Lennie Repetition

Chapter 4 The Character of Crooks – “A mauled copy of the California Civil Code 1905” During this time,African Americans had less rights in society. Crooks possession was the Californian civil code which shows he was aware of his rights and how he is supposed to be treated in the eyes of the law. This could influence the other ranchers for his treatment to be just. Crooks had has the book for a long time. Mauled connotes something “tattered”
