Environmental Education

What is it? Process that allows individuals to explore environmental issues, engage in problem solving, and take action to improve the environment. As a result, individuals develop the skills to make informed and responsible decisions.

The components of environmental education are: Awareness and sensitivity Knowledge and understanding Attitudes of concern and motivation Skills to identify and help Participation in activities that lead to the resolution of environmental challenges

Environmental education teaches individuals how to weigh various sides of an issue through critical thinking and it enhances their own problem-solving and decision- making skills. Environmental Education is more than Information about the Environment

Environmental Education Increases awareness and knowledge of environmental issues teach individuals critical-thinking enhance individuals' problem- solving and decision-making skills Does not advocate a particular viewpoint

Environmental Information Provides facts or opinions about environmental issues Does not necessarily teach individuals critical-thinking Does not necessarily enhance individuals' problem-solving and decision-making skills May advocate a particular viewpoint

Environmental Citizenship is an idea that each of us is an integral part of a larger ecosystem and that our future depends on embracing the challenge and acting responsibly and positively toward our environment. The idea of environmental citizenship was first developed by Environment Canada. It is now spreading around the world.

Citizenship according to: Aristotle: Citizenship and ethics are one. Ethics is from the standpoint of the individual. Citizenship is from the standpoint of the group. Aldo Leopold: It implies respect for his fellow- members, and also respect for the community as such. Mark Sagoff: We are citizens, not just consumers. Our environment requires citizen preferences, not just consumer preferences. As citizens, we need to protect nature, not just buy, sell, and consume it. It has a dignity, not just a price

There are many institutions and associations that have the task to spread environmental education, and we have to give them our support.

What´s environmental education Name 2 components of environmental education: List 2 points of environmental information: What is environmental citizenship? Where it was developed first? What Aristotle said? What do Mark Sagoof said? Aldo Leoplod think?
