H ARDWARE AND SOFTWARE IN HOSPITALS

H ARDWARE : C OMPUTERS Computers would be used to input and output information which staff can use to send s, produce spread sheets, relay information, use it to store information and research patient symptoms. They would also be used to calculate costs incurred, work out wages and time sheets.

Similarly, electronic devices such as ipads, tablets, smart phones would be used for inputting and outputting information in a mobile way rather than having to transport a computer round or relay information back and forth.

X- RAY A form of electromagnetic radiation, used to see bone structure of a patient. It allows the staff to see whether an individual has a break or fracture in the bones.

MRI SCANNER MRI scanners are used to detect problems within the muscles or soft tissues of a patient. They can also be used to detect tumours therefore it is a vital piece or equipment in preventing serious health issues and catching problems in the early stages.

CT S CANNER CT scans are able to analyse different parts of the body, often used in the diagnosis and evaluation several health conditions: Tumours and certain forms of cancer, including lung, pancreatic and liver cancer. Investigations of the brain following strokes. Identifying swelling or blockages in the arteries and diagnosing vascular diseases. Detecting inflammation of the internal organs. Detecting internal damage or injuries after an accident, such as a road traffic accident. Injuries and diseases affecting the bones. Identifying damaged tissue, which can be useful prior to radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Spinal injuries.

TV TVs would be widely used around hospitals to occupy patients preventing boredom. They would be in waiting rooms for individual patients or groups of families waiting.

B LOOD PRESSURE MONITOR It is important to have a blood pressure monitor to ensure the patient maintains constant safe levels to prevent triggering other serious health problems.
