Vocabulary – Punctuation These are the vocabulary words for this lesson. Read through carefully and print out if possible. Don't be overwhelmed. The information will be repeated throughout the module, and there will be practice exercises.

Vocabulary – Punctuation punctuation - a set of symbols that are used for specific purposes in sentences to promote clarity of communication. sentence - a group of words that has a subject, predicate, and a complete thought. end punctuation - full stop punctuation to mark the end of a sentence: periods, question marks, and exclamation points.

Vocabulary – Punctuation periods - The symbol. which is used to mark the end of a declaratory sentence; also used in some abbreviations question mark - The symbol ? which is used at the end of a question. exclamation points - The symbol ! which is used at the end of an exclamation, an excited utterance.

Vocabulary – Punctuation commas - The symbol, which is used to separate certain parts of sentences as per specific rules for use; also has standard usages such as in dates, numbers, and addressed. semicolons - The symbol ; which may be used to separate two short, closely related sentences; also used to separate items in a series or more than two when at least one of the items has a comma within it. colons - The symbol : which is used in a sentence after a word group that can stand alone as a sentence which introduces a word, series or group of words, or a clause which further describes.
