GUSTAR In order to say that you like something in Spanish, you must say that the thing is pleasing to you. For example, “I like the book” is expressed as “The book is pleasing to me.” Me gusta el libro.

Por ejemplo: In English we say: “I like Spanish.” In Spanish we say: “To me, Spanish is pleasing.” You have to say it backwards

Gustar Gustar’s Indirect Objects fall in the same place in a sentence as did our Subject Pronouns. Except now they take the place of the yo, tú, él, ella, Ud., nosotros, ellos, ellas, Uds. Can you say IRREGULAR!!!

The forms of GUSTAR We will use only two forms--gusta and gustan. The object pronouns me, te, le, nos and les indicate who likes the thing mentioned. The subject (what is liked) follows the verb. If the subject is singular, use gusta. If the subject is plural, use gustan.

Me gusta… / Me gustan… Te gusta… / Te gustan… Le gusta… / Le gustan… Nos gusta… / Nos gustan… Les gusta… / Les gustan… I like… You like… He / she / you like(s)… We like… They / you all like.. = SingularPlural

Ejemplos Me gusta la historia. I like history. (History is pleasing to me.) ¿Te gusta el fútbol? Do you like soccer? (Is soccer pleasing to you?) Nos gusta el béisbol. We like baseball. (Baseball is pleasing to us.)

If more that one thing is liked, the verb will be gustan, the plural form. Me gustan los deportes. I like sports. (Sports are pleasing to me.) No te gustan los deportes. You don´t like sports. (Sports are not pleasing to you.) Más Ejemplos

¿Cómo se dice en español? I like to run. Me gusta correr. Elena likes to watch television. A Elena le gusta ver la televisión. We don’t like to study. No nos gusta estudiar. Mateo likes cars. A Mateo le gustan los coches. You like movies, right? Te gustan las películas, ¿verdad? They don´t like geometry. No les gusta la geometría.

¿What if you love it? Use encantar to show stronger emotion. Me encanta la pizza. I love pizza. A mis hijos les encantan los coches. My sons love cars. ¡Nos encanta la geometría! We love geometry! McDonald´s uses this in their commercials. I´m lovin´it. Me encanta.
