Networking with Windows Vista.

Vista’s New Tools and Features The Network and Sharing Center Network Discovery Network Map Network Diagnostics

The Network and Sharing Center A centralized console that provides system technicians and administrators with access to most of the major networking tools included with Windows Vista. Includes a task list and a summary of the Network Map

The Network and Sharing center

Network Discovery Access to sharing and discovery of other computers on the network. Controls weather the computer can see or be seen by other systems on the network. Controls weather the system can share its resources or access shared resources on the network

Network Map

A graphical map of the nodes on the network, displaying each node and the node’s status Network Map uses Link Layer Topology Discovery protocol to discover Information about the network and the devices attached to it.

Network Diagnostics Capable of Diagnosing problems such as –Broken or detached cable connections –IP address or Subnet Mask problems –Default gateway problems –DNS and DHCP Configuration problems –Networking hardware configuration problems –Internet server addresses and service settings
