DISTRICT ZAWIERCIE

The Zawiercie District is situated in north – eastern part of the Province of Silesia. That is landed District. Its area is 1003 km 2, with about inhabitants.

Economy of the Zawiercie District is characterizing in considerable structural diversification, the being affected, mainly, by the potential of particular communes, wherein natural conditions and different region development vision and tradition.

Geografical position of Zawiercie District is delimited by the Cracow – Częstochowa Upland reach in Trassic island mountains of the Cracow – Częstochowa Jura.

The main natural resources of the district are zinc and lead deposits with silver admixture ( still not exploited )as well as dense and large forest areas of diversified tree stand constituting 29,5 % of total district area.

In Zawiercie begin many turist tracks: in particular interest is so called Eagles` Nest.

Natural area is covered in the form of reserves, natural monuments and ecological land with additional protection. The examples are The Góra Chełm, Smoleń, Góra Zborów.

We find here many protected plant species, over 300 species of vascular plants, of which 20 are low – protected species. Moreover, there are about 40 birds species and many protected rare in vertebrates, amphibians, reptiles and mammals.
