2 When did the Carboniferous Period begin?
It began about million years ago

3 What type of plants grew during the Carboniferous Period?
Huge ferns grew in the middle of swamps Lycopods, ferns, and seed ferns grew in Earth’s first primitive forests Large trees covered with bark Plants gave off a lot of oxygen So much surplus oxygen that plants and animals grew to enormous sizes (Meganeura, and Arthopleura)

4 What types of animals were in the Carboniferous period?
Amphibians: Begins life in water then later moves to land. Tetrapods : Four legged vertebrates ; more and more species of tetrapods evolved. Early Reptiles: Leathery skin. Huge insects Meganeura: Large ancestor of the Dragonfly. Arthopleura: Giant millipede. Some examples are…Crinoids, Bryozoans, Branchiopods

5 What was the climate like during the Carboniferous Period?
Steamy and tropical Hot and humid During late Carboniferous Period, climate became increasingly cooler and drier

What were some Major Events that happened during the Carboniferous Period? Amniote Egg: Allowed further exploitation of the land by certain tetrapods Allowed ancestors of birds, mammals, and reptiles to reproduce (prevented the dehydration of the embryo) Carboniferous Ice Age Local basin subsidence and worldwide sea level changes

7 Interesting Facts “Carboniferous” refers to the rich deposits of coal throughout Northern Europe, Asia, and Midwestern and Eastern North America This period is known for its vast coal swamps Resembled our own climate and atmosphere like no other near the ending of this period

8 How did the Carboniferous period end?
Global climate changes due to the glaciers that covered the South Pole Marine environments were most affected by the climate changes The extinctions of invertebrates who lived in the sea
