4 The National School ENTPE 1 ENTPE is a Goverment school, located in Vaulx-en-Velin near Lyon (France)

5 The National School ENTPE 1 On the same campus, there is ENTPE and ‘’The School of d’Architecture of Lyon’’

6 The National School ENTPE It prepares Civil Engineers : State structures local authorities private companies Studies : 3 years, with the possibility to do one year more or a PhD. 1

7 Educational cursus during the first year Scientific and fundamental knowledge. Core materials about the following fields : City and buildings Environment and risks Transportation and infrastructure 1

8 Educational cursus during the second year Students have to choose between Majors : –‘’City and buildings’’, –‘’Environment and risks’’, –‘’transportation and infrastructure’’. Going thoroughly into subjects. Two important aspects of the course session : training periods and a project. 1

9 Educational cursus for the third year Students have to choose one speciality. For the Major ‘’Environment, risks and territory’’ three possibilities : –Damage and Pollution –Management of rivers and costal waters –Prevention and management of risks First beginning at the start of the new school year (September 2006). 1

12 The basis of the project The origin of the project MEng in 2002 : ‘’mastering natural, industrial and urban risks’’ Partnership with the French Institute of Petrol (IFP). Certu was a technical partner in charge of urban risks. 2a

13 The basis of the project A few months ago, the ENTPE asked to create a new project : The 3 rd year of a Risk Diploma. 2a

14 Risk management can be : a special mission within an organisation (dealing with dangerous phenomena such as industrial hazards or natural risks) For Engineers in charge of territory, what dealing with risks means ? 1/2 2a

15 Risk management can also be : a professional philosophy, a know-how Daily risks/ Uncertain context Vulnerability/ Management For Engineers in charge of territory, what does it mean to deal with risks ? 2/2 2a

16 Mastering fundamental technical / transversal aspects Dealing with systemic views / Combine global approaches (technical data, sociologial and economic points of view, scientific research). Risk approach as a school of excellence 2a

19 The pedagogical project The idea in this training course is : to give general concepts, to develop risk policies, to deal with methods and tools to work on territorial approaches including the crisis management and finally to join the various strands together. 2b
