♦National Delta Tau Alpha Newsletter ♦ February 2004♦ Meet your Relations Officer. Dr. Jean A. Gleichsner grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin where she was involved in the high school chapter of the FFA and 4-H. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she graduated with highest distinction, receiving B.S. degrees in Agricultural Education and Agronomy. She then attended Oregon State University where she earned both a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Weed Science in 1987 and 1988, respectively. Dr. Gleichsner joined the Agriculture Department at Fort Hays State University in 1988 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in She has served as the Delta Tau Alpha (DTA) Chapter Co-advisor ( ), Chapter Advisor (1993-present) and recently was elected as the National DTA Advisor. She is actively involved in campus and community activities and was recognized for her service to the College of Health and Life Sciences in 1994, 1999 and Dr. Gleichsner served a two-year term ( ) as President of the Kansas Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (KACTA). She served a two-year term ( ) as Central Regional Director of the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA), Vice- President of NACTA ( ) and President for NACTA ( ). Dr. Gleichsner served as President of the Phi Kappa Phiat FHSU ( ) and is currently serving as Public Relations Officer. Dr. Robert (Bob) Stephenson grew up in northern Illinois, he spent 3 years in Florida, but Hays, Kansas and Fort Hays State University have been home for the past 16 years. He keeps busy teaching 4-5 classes per semester while serving as an academic advisor to 25 undergraduate students. He serves on numerous university, college and departmental committees, and he has been involved with GPS at the university farm and has on-going no-till work with Monsanto and fertility work with Kansas State University and others. Dr. Bob coaches the Crops Judging Team, he serves as Chair for the Teacher Recognition Committee of NACTA (North American Colleges & Teachers of Agriculture), and has served Delta Tau Alpha as National Executive Treasurer for 12 years. Dr. Stephenson has been recognized both locally and nationally for his outstanding efforts in teaching. When not working, Dr. Bob enjoys traveling. National Advisor National Executive Treasurer

Kennedy ~ Man, despite his artistic pretensions, his sophistication and many accomplishments, owes the fact of his existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains. ~ Anonymous ~ Chapter Chatters Angelo State’s next service project will be handing out carnations to residents at a local nursing home on Saturday, February 14. For our February fundraiser we will be selling home baked cookies during the week of Feb. 23. We are still collecting for the canned food drive that will end in April, with the food going to Murfreesboro's Food Bank. At our next meeting we will be making valentines to distribute at Bristol Manor for our February Community Service project. We are assisting the Ag Alumni Association with the 1 st annual Bearkat Classic Golf Tournament, to be held on Saturday. April 24.
