 The V in V.H. Lassen happens to be his name, Vernon.  He was a farmer, and his family owned the land the school is built on.  His family then donated the land to the district in the 1960s, therefore naming the school after him.  The Lassen Family farmed cotton and corn more than any other item.

 Lassen is located at 909 W. Vineyard Phoenix, Arizona  RSD was established in Phoenix, Arizona in 1912  The first Roosevelt school was the Broadway school, it was located at the corner of 7 th street and Southern Ave.

 There were very few roads in the district’s early days.  Southern Avenue did not exist and students reached the school by walking or on burros

 The population increased rapidly and twelve –room addition was built in 1921  The increasing population made it necessary to provide more classrooms.
