No quotation marks needed Shorter than the original but takes a somewhat broader segment of the source and condensing it slightly. Citation needed

 Read the entire text, noting the key points and main ideas.  Summarize in your own words what the single main idea of the essay is.  Paraphrase important supporting points that come up in the essay.  Consider any words, phrases, or brief passages that you believe should be quoted directly.

 Original: Her life spanned years of incredible change for women.  Paraphrase: Mary lived through an era of liberating reform for women (Last Name #).  Original: Any trip to Italy should include a visit to Tuscany to sample their exquisite wines.  Paraphrase: Be sure to include a Tuscan wine-tasting experience when visiting Italy (Last Name #).

Original Passage:  In The Sopranos, the mob is besieged as much by inner infidelity as it is by the federal government.
