 Honors courses cover course content in greater depth and may include additional material.  Honors courses encourage students to challenge themselves.

 Advanced Placement courses are college-level courses taught in high schools.  Colleges may award credit based on the student’s score on the Advanced Placement exam which is administered in May.

 Students who are motivated  Students who like a challenge  Students who are or want to become academically prepared

 Rigorous high school curriculum is the single best predictor of success in college  Explore subjects of interest more deeply  Develop confidence with challenging work  Develop time management and study skills that are essential for college  Earn a grade point average boost of 0.5 on a 4.0 scale for each honors class passed

 May earn college credit for qualifying scores on AP exams  Show college admissions personnel that student is serious about his/her education  More likely to complete a college degree on time if student has taken an AP course  Earn a grade point average boost of 1.0 on a 4.0 scale for each Advanced Placement course passed

 Take responsibility for your own learning  Be motivated to do whatever it takes to succeed  Do not hesitate to ask for help when it is needed

 Provide trained teachers and resources to enhance your AP experience  Pay $45 toward each math, English, science, or social studies AP exam  Pay directly to the student $100 for each qualifying score on any math, English, science, or social studies AP exam if they are enrolled in the course
