Nikki Tilson – Assessment and Achievement Adviser (Nursery and Primary) Assessment Update June 2015

Primary Assessment Phonics Screening Check - please keep annotated delivery notes and follow guidance on storage etc as with KS2 SATs. Thank you for sending in PSC timetables to help with monitoring KS1 and KS2 moderation schools – if you wish to make changes to judgements agreed in moderation, please the further evidence recorded on your moderation visit summaries by Friday 19 th June Assessment Conference to introduce STAR Primary on July 9 th for HT and Assessment Coordinator Plan in INSET days for transfer to new system

Reception Baselines If you opted for a reception baseline this year, the DfE will notify you later in June/early July if your chosen supplier did not get commitment from 10% of schools and is not viable Reception baseline sits within broader assessment of children’s development and EYFS and ELGs remain statutory although EYFS Profile becomes non- statutory after June Progress from Reception baseline to KS2 will be calculated using averages and will be compared with others nationally with same starting point.

On-Entry Assessment Guidance  To capture progress from the very earliest starting points by utilising opportunities before children start and in the first couple of days to make a broad phase of development assessment (if processes allow it) and then refine it. Effective transitions Questions for parents An “at–a–glance” on entry assessment grid Planning learning intentions for settling in Observing the specific areas of learning in appropriate activities  Keep a live baseline % as children enter over a period of time.  Take the credit for all the work that is done to support children in settling in.
