2 www.southwark.gov.uk GLD offer Pros  Valuable for comparisons between other local schools  Sets a recognisable end of phase standard  Supports you to be able to demonstrate progress over this phase  Part of statutory learning and development requirements- still need to aim towards ELG’s so why not measure it.  Published baselines do not provide a whole profile of a child- particularly pertinent as Ofsted will focus on all subject areas  Profession is in favour of keeping profile- 4Children conference votes overwhelmingly to keep it.

School will be required to ‘take reasonable steps’ to make sure this is provided

8 www.southwark.gov.uk Summer-born children 'to get the right to start school later‘ Gov.uk website Schools Minister Nick Gibb announced the government’s intention to give summer-born children the right to start in reception at the age of 5 The minister said admissions rules must be changed so children born between 1 st April and 31 st August cannot be forced to go straight into year 1 if they wait to start school until they turn 5 A consultation will now be carried out and the reforms approved by Parliament

9 www.southwark.gov.uk Two year old provision in schools Schools no longer have to register separately with Ofsted The ‘School Organisation’ guidance has been amended so that schools can lower their age range by up to two years without having to go through a statutory process.
