Canadian Geography 3200/02 6.4: Migration Start

Overview Examine the relationship among birth rate, death rate, emigration and immigration to determine the actual change in a population. (a) Examine the relationship among birth rate, death rate, emigration and immigration to determine the actual change in a population. (a) Define the terms migration, immigration, and emigration. (k) Define the terms migration, immigration, and emigration. (k) Define the term actual population change Express the actual change in population in mathematical terms. (a) Express the actual change in population in mathematical terms. (a)

Define the terms migration, immigration, and emigration. Main Migration - the movement of people from one region to another. Immigration - people entering a country to permanently settle there Emigration - people leaving a country to permanently settle elsewhere.

6.4.2 Define the term actual population change. Main Actual population change - change in population resulting from natural change (births / deaths) and migration (immigration / emigration)

Express the actual change in population in mathematical terms. Main Actual change = (Births + Immigration) - (Deaths + Emigration) Births: Deaths: Immigration: 1200 Emigration: 500 Actual change = ( ) – ( ) Actual change = (16200 – 12500) Actual change = 3700 The population grew by 3700 people. Births: Deaths: Immigration: 1200 Emigration: 500 Actual change = ( ) – ( ) Actual change = (16200 – 12500) Actual change = 3700 The population grew by 3700 people.

Examine the relationship among birth rate, death rate, emigration and immigration to determine the actual change in a population. Main WHICH COUNTRY HAD THE GREATEST ACTUAL CHANGE?
