3 6.5.1 Define the terms push factor, pull factor, repel factor, and intervening obstacle. (k) Main Push factor - negative things that make people want to leave a country Pull factor - positive things that make people want to move to a certain country. Repel factor - negative things that stop people from moving to a certain country. Intervening obstacles - things that prevents or inhibits a person from moving.

4 The decision to move from one region to another is never an easy one. People must take many factors into consideration. (a) Main Why should we allow more immigrants into Canada? - shortage of skilled workers - increase working population - more taxes for government - they start businesses and provide employment - decrease dependency load - help others improve their lives Which country should allow migrants into the country? (k) Main Impacts of Immigration: Disadvantages 1. take work from Canadians 2. add to the poor population (welfare) Advantages 1. immigration boosts the economy. Immigrants are creative, skilled and hard-working. 2. analysts associate newcomers with growth and prosperity (newcomers create demand for goods and services; they also create labour and businesses) 3. Many immigrants arrive in the prime of their work lives 4.
