The answer to the Long answered question from the test last week An activity that pushes you to your boundaries can stimulate physical challenge. An example is a marathon. It is a huge physical challenge to run 26.2 miles because of all the training you will have needed to complete prior the event to increase your fitness to a suitable level. Also, you need the mental strength to keep going in training and make the necessary adjustments to your normal life to make time for the training. Playing for a team can stimulate cooperation. Teams that work well together are able to use good communication skills and demonstrate good teamwork. It enables people to find solutions and work together on tasks. A netball team that cooperates well with each other and communicates when things go wrong and congratulates people when things go right provides a good grounding for a successful team.

GENERAL NOTE SCRIBBLE SPORTS PARTICIPATION PYRAMID The base of the pyramid is the foundation this is large because more people participate at this level. This is the beginner level this is when everyone tries the activity for the first time. Participation level is where people are participating and practising the activity and playing for fun in their own free time. Performance level is where participants are wanting to get better and are training regularly with a coach to improve their skill level and are competing regularly in local and regional leagues and cup competitions This is the professional/international performer at the top of his/her game. Question A B C D Which letter, A B C or D represents the stage where participants regularly experience coaching in their specific sports? (This is a D mark question) 1 mark The Answer is B

Question Explain why the elite level of the sports participation pyramid has the smallest number of participants. This is a C/B question (3 marks) The elite level of the sports participation pyramid is only for a limited number of people with the correct skills and determination to reach this level. Not all performers who have the correct level of skill will not reach this level a they may not have the determination or train as hard. Not all people have the ability to become elite. Also, some performers may not have access to coaching at that level

Your Turn Explain the participation stage of the pyramid (3marks)Try not to confuse performance and participation Outline how someone can move the participation to the performance stage of the sports pyramid (2 marks)

ANSWER 1. Participation stage is when people choose to participate in their own free time. Sport skills are at a higher level than foundation level but they are not performed competitively. An example would be joining an after school club. 2. Specialist coaching, Entering competitions

ANSWER The range of roles includes, performing, volunteering, leading and officiating. Most people like to play so take that role but if you don’t like to play you can coach or officiate a match. Also if you get injured you can change your role from performer to coach therefore remaining in physical activity/sport.
