Did you know: 2008 Processing 425,00 smears of which 1.3% are high grade results (HSIL) 28,000 colposcopies 16 lifetime smears per woman Per annum 170 women diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer in NZ and 60 women die 2013 Processing 433,000 smears, 7,450 HG (1.7%) 31,540 Colposcopies Public and Private 16 lifetime smears per woman In 2011, 161 diagnosed with invasive cancer in NZ and 52 died of cervical cancer in 2010

Did you know (ctd) 2008 Between 1990 and 2005 the death rate from cervical cancer in New Zealand decreased by 60% 2013 Between 1998 and 2010 mortality rate from Cervical Cancer decreased 32% Northland ,000 Screens 660 Colposcopies The NCSP currently includes * 7000 smear takers * 20 DHB’s * 7 Laboratories

Recall of Women for smears The minimum number of attempts to contact women for recall is three, however it is expected that further efforts will be made where possible. For women who have not responded to recall, opportunistic screening may be appropriate. Women should not be removed or archived from recall lists

Screening History Report Provided on demand Provides women’s screening history Request from your Regional Team (phone or fax Laboratories and Colposcopy Clinics generate their own

Smear Taker Recall Report When women are due to have a smear, they must be followed up by Health Practitioners Lists due women by level of abnormality i.e. HG, LG, and Normal history. Automatically generated by the Register two months prior to when the particpant will be due for a smear and sent out monthly

Overdue Smears Report Tells smear takers who is overdue for a cervical smear Opportunity for smear takers to update demographics and other relevant information Automatically generated by the NCSP-Register and sent out monthly A woman stays on report for a maximum of 90 days Women with abnormal history will receive a recall letter at 3 months and 6 months Women with normal history will receive a recall letter at 6 months and 9 months

Quality of Smears Report Details compliance and performance information based on quality of smears with adequate cell counts against number of smears taken Can be generated on request by Smear Taker or Health Facility Automatically generated and sent out yearly to smear takers
