Tristan and Isolde The ultimate love story….a romance, a tragedy, and the original love triangle

Tristan

Isolde Irish Princess

King Mark (of Lyonnesse) Uncle and father figure to Tristan In love with Isolde

(Tristam and Iseult [Yseult]) Tristan and Isolde (Tristam and Iseult [Yseult])

Mark loves Isolde and sends Tristan to get her from Ireland

On the way back to Cornwall, Tristan and Isolde drink a magic potion that makes them fall in love

Mark finds out, imprisons Tristan, and moves Isolde to a leper colony.

Tristan escapes, rescues Isolde, and is wounded by Mark’s poisoned lance

Tristan remarries another Isolde It is an unhappy Marriage because He still loves his true love

Tristan sends for his true love, Isolde, to help him recover White sails mean she’s onboard, black sails mean she’s not. His new wife is jealous and tricks Tristan.

Tristan dies of heartache because he thinks Isolde abandoned him

Isolde dies of heartache as a result of Tristan’s death
