Working with 3D Models in Design & Construction Panel Discussion 1

Topics for Discussion Status of 3D modeling at MoDOT Discuss what 3D model outputs are useful in construction Describe applications of 3D models in construction 2

MoDOT’s Current Digital Plans Delivery Electronically Signed & Sealed Vector PDF’s 3 Source: MoDOT and Bentley Systems, Inc. PowerGeopak

Current creation of the 3D Design Model Today’s Level of Detail Existing terrain collected using helicopter LiDAR (accuracy of data is certified at +/- 0.3ft). Design model prepared for projects with cross sections and earthwork pay items. Design model prepared for linear corridors and major intersections only. Entrances and bridges are NOT modeled at this time. Purpose for the model is to develop plan sheets 4

Digital Engineering Data Delivery -TODAY Provided Pre-Bid for Information Only 5 Type of ProjectDigital Data Provided Projects with significant amount of cross-sections Survey control points, available alignments and profiles, existing DTM, PFG surface, and when possible a subgrade surface.
