VMware discovered virtualization because it really is just for running more Windows servers. Management keeps saying they are getting rid of the mainframe (zOS & zVSE) but they know they are not going to for many years. They have said this since the 90s. Sampling of comments We still have political issues, depending on the architects du jour. The folks using it are very pleased. I believe there is a big difference between systems management and cloud.  Cloud is about control to end users and developers  System Management is about IT departments managing systems Both have goals of optimizing systems and reducing costs. Companies need to decide when to evolve existing systems and processes to be more cloud like vs. when to acquire a pre packaged cloud solution. I believe Timing, Expectations and Qualities of Service will be driving decision. I hope today’s discuss inspires ideas you can take back to your organization to lead these discussions.
