Presentation transcript:

What is a genre? A group, type, or category with similar characteristics – (such as writing, music, art, etc.)

What is a multi-genre project? A project where you complete different genres to show how much you have learned about your topic through your research

Why do multi-genre products? to communicate information about a topic in multiple ways

How many genres do I have to do? Standard: 3 Honors: 4

Are there any specific genres I MUST do? Yes, you have to do a photo essay in PowerPoint for your project so you can use it in your speech. This counts as one of your genres.

Do I get to choose my other genres? Yes. You will be given a list today to choose your genres.

Do all of the genres count the same for the grade? No. Your visual genre counts the most (40 out of 100)because you should spend the most time on it.

How many grades is this in total? You will get a grade for turning in the first draft of your written genres. You will also get a final test grade for a final draft of all genres.

How will I be graded? Overall, it is the QUALITY of what you produce that will matter the most. This includes following directions and making each genre adhere to its formatting requirements.

What are the requirements for each piece? Look closely at your list and encyclopedia of genres. Beside each genre, you will find the basic requirements and the encyclopedia will help you in formatting. However, you will probably need to research your genre choices more in-depth to get a good idea of what each entails.

When do I have to know what I will be doing for my project? Tomorrow, March 14 th.

When is the final date to change which genres I am doing? March 29 th

When is the first draft of my written genres due? Wednesday, April 11 th (week after Spring Break) There will be a Genre Showcase in class where you will display your genres for peers and your teachers to view.

Will we get any time in class to work on it? Yes. You will have at least one workday between now and then, but you will have to do some work out of class.

When are all the final drafts of all of the genres due? On your presentation day, April th

How is my category 2 genre different from the rest of them? 1.It is more elaborate and should address a main topic in your research. 2.It counts twice as much.

What restrictions are there for the category 2 project? 1.See the back of the project proposal handout for details. 2.Make sure your project can fit in the doors of the school.

What do I need to know to be successful for this part of AWED? 1.Start early and turn all parts in on time. 2.Ask for help right away if you need it. Don’t wait! 3.Take pictures of yourself doing your project to add to your booth.

What do I need to know to be successful for this part of AWED? 4. Don’t give up if it gets too hard. Problem-solve! 5. Make a plan and manage your time. 6. Have fun and show off your talents!
