Samsung: Water-Powered Cell Phone Vanessa Perez

How it works? Step 1: The handset is turned on Step 1: The handset is turned on Step 2: Metal and water in the phone react to produce hydrogen gas Step 2: Metal and water in the phone react to produce hydrogen gas Step 3: The gas is then supplied to the fuel cell where it reacts with oxygen in the air to generate power (Other fuel cells need methanol to produce hydrogen, while Samsung's needs only water) Step 3: The gas is then supplied to the fuel cell where it reacts with oxygen in the air to generate power (Other fuel cells need methanol to produce hydrogen, while Samsung's needs only water) Step 4: Power in converted into power that can be used by the phone Step 4: Power in converted into power that can be used by the phone  It can generate up to three watts of electricity

Limitations If the user uses the phone for four hours a day on average, they would have to change the hydrogen cartridge about every five days If the user uses the phone for four hours a day on average, they would have to change the hydrogen cartridge about every five days What kind of water? What kind of water? Temperature? Temperature?

Benefits New fuel cell could power a handset for ten hours, twice as long as rechargeable batteries New fuel cell could power a handset for ten hours, twice as long as rechargeable batteries Step closer to handsets that don’t need the hydrogen cartridges to be changed, and would only need to be filled with water Step closer to handsets that don’t need the hydrogen cartridges to be changed, and would only need to be filled with water

The Water-Powered Cell Phone will hit the market in 2010
