KEK TB Phase II setup status Alan Bross MICE Tracking Group Meeting Daresbury Lab August 30, 2005

On the Move  Equipment left D0 on August 12

Stuck  It then sat in the Fermilab shipping department until August 17 (GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!), Left Fermilab on the 17 th (en-route to Osaka (GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).  Dr. Bross (by chance) caught that the equipment was going to Osaka and managed to convince the shipping company that indeed Tsukuba was no where near Osaka.

On the Move Again  The equipment left Chicago on the 17 th on JAL to Narita via Atlanta and indeed arrived in Tokyo in the morning on Friday the 19 th.  Yoshimura san managed to pull strings with customs and get the equipment delivered to KEK on Wed. 24 at about 10:00.

Setting Up  The equipment was moved into place with the expert help of one of the KEK riggers and we managed to get the cryo-cooler running by Thursday. u Vacuum Insulation volume pumped down nicely u VLPC cassette volume tight – no leaks  50 Hz operation, 30 o C, and 77% RH in the Hall slowed the cooldown from what we experienced at Fermilab  We finally did make it to 6.2 K on Stage II (v. 5.2 at FNAL) u Operating point of 7.2K obtained with heater power  The AFE II electronics was tested. Power supplies, programming, and FPGA read-back stability all looked very good. Good program multiple AFEs without problem.  However, we could not get readout via the VLSB boards to work. – Next Hurdle

Next  Get VLSB readout working u Latest as of Monday morning JT – some progress on VLSB readout s Try to get VNC application via VPN connection to Fermilab for remote debug  When area is available to us, move magnet in place, install tracker.  Relocate VLPC cryostat (do this while it is cold and running) u We believe we have set things up to make this possible, again with the expert help of one of the KEK riggers.  Setup Counters, TOF, Cerenkov  LED tests  Cosmic Tests (if time allows)  Timing things in  Pray for better weather
