In the words of Allan Bakke

Legal Issues Were Bakke’s rights under the 14th Amendment Equal Protection Clause, the CA State Constitution and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, violated by the UC Davis Medical School special admissions program? Should Bakke be admitted to the Medical School? Can race be used in admissions decisions?

Court produced 6 separate opinions The court affirmed that the special admissions program was illegal. The court reversed the previous decision of the lower courts, by stating that race may be one of a number of factors considered by schools in admissions applications.
