Objectives of an Industry Standard Provide an agreed-upon, understandable & accessible information database that benefits an industry-wide base of users & suppliers (SHS stakeholders) Leave room beyond the agreed-upon elements of the standard for manufacturers to compete in the marketplace

Current SP Standard SwagelokCircorParker A good example of a standard that achieves the objectives

Current SP Standard However, the standard allows manufacturers to access any combination of flow path holes required by a particular device

Current SP Standard Therefore, the porting of a functional device could be designed by different manufacturers in different ways Users deserve the right to know to what extent “plug & play” is available amongst manufacturers Ultimately, the market will decide which method is best suited to meet the functional needs of the device Manufacturer “A” Manufacturer “B” = Inlet = Outlet = Port not accessed

SP76.51 Standards Committee Current Mission Adopt a standard library of symbols for devices used in process analytical schematics Symbol definitions do not delineate between conventional or modular devices

SP76.51Standards Committee Current Status Symbol library has been prepared thanks to donation from Dow Chemical (Rob Dubois) Library is poised for committee member review and comment Committee membership is open to any interested stakeholder; contact David Lewko at if you’re interested in participating

SP76.51Standards Committee Expanded Mission Provide a common format for all manufacturers of SP & conventional devices to display critical end- user information in a device profile including mechanical, electrical and communication buss related data The extent and method of disseminating the data shall be at the discretion of the manufacturer (barcode on device, printed catalog, website, proprietary software, etc.)

SP76.51 Standard Expanded Mechanical related data summary: modular 2 way ball valve
