Aims and Objectives To introduce the stages of web design and implementation To introduce needs analysis To introduce storyboards and navigation charts To examine methods for designing navigation

Web Site Development Stages Information Gathering Prototyping Implementation Testing Designing for the user at all times

Needs Analysis Identify the target users Examine the context of the proposed site Examine the concerns and issues that the user will face when using the site Designing for particular needs

Storyboards Used to indicate what users will see on a screen They provide a feel for the interface Usually paper based Should compliment the navigation diagram Identify elements such as: Layout and colour schemes Font size and style The use of other media elements (sound, video)

Navigation Charts Should represent the movement through the site Can use multiple diagrams To identify movement through main sections To identify movement within sections Otherwise known as a structure chart

Designing Site Navigation Ensure it is easy to learn Consistent Provide user feedback Provide alternative navigation Provide clear messages Should be in context
