A Guide to the ATIS Guides A summary of the various guides, resources, and supporting materials maintained by the SAE Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) Committee for deployments Society of Automotive Engineers 400 Commonwealth Drive Warrendale, PA

The Guides Six ATIS Deployment Guides exist as this time all freely available from SAE and FHWA sponsored web sites. –The General ATIS Guide –The Event Message Guide –The Weather Message Guide –The Routing Message Guide –The ADUS with ATIS Guide –The DB-SQL Guide An emphasis on the practical aspects of how to effectively use the standard with multiple real world examples. Multiple XML, XSD and ASN codes fragments are available on–line as examples.

The General ATIS Guide This guide provides a general overview of the ATIS message set and its contents, then explores the proper use of the events, routing and other messages with the use of ITIS codes and other standards that ATIS makes use of. 128 Pages in Four separate volumes

The Event Guide This guide provides more detailed data on constructing the event message, the message used for 90% of ATIS traffic. The Weather Guide This guide provides more detailed data on the use of the ATIS weather message for general weather conditions reporting and for use in support of traffic conditions. 23 Pages in.doc.pdf and.html format with XML examples

The ADUS-ATIS Guide This guide provides more detailed data on the use and support for the ADUS methods and standards when building an ATIS system. 25 Pages in.doc.pdf and.html format with XML examples

The DB-SQL Guide This guide provides more detailed data on the critical design considerations when developing a SQL style database to support the capture of ATIS message content. 35 Pages in.doc.pdf and.html format with XML examples

Typical Guide Layout Built in Three Parts Part I, a Discussion of the relevant message from the standard Part II, Example use cases, dialogs, and messages with correctly formed XML encoding given Part III, Supporting linkages to complete messages, schema files, and other programmer fragments. User Feedback As the ITS community uses the guides, new questions, corrections, and improvements are expected to occur. It is recommend that such questions be posted to the committee forum so that all can participate in the process of response. Today, answers to hundreds of common ITS deployment questions can be found there.
