What is the Directory? A hierarchical list of subject categories that is used to organize information within the portal for browsing and click- through document retrieval. It provides an alternative to text and keyword searching.

Document Directory Categorizes links to documents that are indexed in the portal.

Document Directory Categorizes links to documents that are indexed in the portal. Allows users to browse through increasingly more granular categories.

Document Directory Categorizes links to documents that are indexed in the portal. Allows users to browse through increasingly more granular categories. Displays document hit lists that can be searched using text terms and keywords.

Deployment Approach Phased release by functional area…and later by IC. With each functional area release: – A taxonomy for the functional area will be added to the Document Directory. – All functional area documents will be linked to categories in the browsable Directory — and available also through Search. – Functional area data, computer systems, and tools will be accessible from portal modules. – At least two functional area Communities will be deployed with the release. IC information will be deployed as time and resources permit.

Grants Management Community Will create an area within the NIH Portal where data, documents, links and other information of specific interest to your community can be assembled. Will provide a whiteboard where announcements and meetings and other events of interest can be posted. Will allow you to initiate a discussion or post a question that anyone in the community can answer in real time. Will support the creation of a community page for orientation of new grants management staff. Etc.

Next Steps Decide, as soon as possible, if you’d like to create a Grants Management Community within the NIH Portal. Select a Community Manager who will work with the NIH Portal project team — and you — to determine what we’ll include in your Community area. Contact Donna Wicker (301-435-6567) to initiate the process.
