IEC/TC 105 Work programme n n WG 3Stationary fuel cell power plants – Safety n n WG 4 Stationary fuel cell power plants – Test methods for the performance n n WG 5 Stationary fuel cell power plants – Installation n n WG 6 Fuel cell system for propulsion and auxiliary power units n n WG 7 Portable fuel cell appliances – Safety and performance requirements n n WG 8 Micro Fuel Cell Power Systems ‑ Safety n n WG 9 Micro Fuel Cell Power Systems ‑ Performance n n WG10 Micro Fuel Cell Power Systems ‑ Interchangeability IEC/CDV IEC/CDV IEC/WD IEC/PWI IEC/CDV IEC/CD IEC/WD IEC/WD

2. Benefits of RC&S Harmonization RC&S activities can help facilitate: u u R&D u u Demonstration u u Commercialization u Foster cooperation, guide technical work and accelerate the development of products by reducing the time required to get a new design into production u Assure safety of products and installations u Needed to allow product certification and global trade u Improve user and customer confidence in the products

2. Benefits of Harmonization n n Provide a common language between buyers and sellers n n Increase productivity and efficiency in manufacturing (reduce the variety of products) n n Reduction of capital investment in inventory, warehouse and special equipment

3. Harmonization Organizations n n Global bodies such as UN/ECE, ISO, IEC are working towards global harmonization n n The member countries of IPHE recognize that common RC&S are required to accelerate the cost-effective transition to a global hydrogen economy n n The HarmonHy project also fosters the harmonization of RC&S n n The Global Cooperation Group (GCG) is actively working with existing international organizations to facilitate harmonization

4. How HySafe can help… n n In order to develop international RC&S that are based on the consolidated results of science, technology and experience, there is a need to get an international consensus on topics such as: u u Hydrogen release and dispersion in a number of environments u u Thermal and pressure effects from hydrogen fires and explosions u u Mitigation techniques u u Risk assessment u u Hazardous Zones – Electrical Classification Distances u u Clearance Distances for Venting of Hydrogen Storage

4. How HySafe can help… n n The experts involved in hydrogen safety should get involved in ISO/IEC. Their participation will ensure: u u Their work is made available to the international RC&S community u u Their work is connected to the needs of the international RC&S community u u Their work is presented in a format acceptable to the international RC&S community F F Assumptions are clearly defined; F F Tools used are identified; F F Means have been taken to validate the results.
