Workshop on CES Innovation Grants Scheme for Academic Year 2005/2006 Samir Al-Baiyat Dean, College of Engineering Sciences, KFUPM

Rationale for the IGS  With its quest for excellence, KFUPM administration looks always for ways to promote initiatives that would benefit students, the scientific community, and the public at large.  Towards this aim, there were a number of initiatives, supported by HE the rector, that started in the past three years. One of these projects is the IGS scheme.

Objectives of the Innovation Grants Scheme  The aim of this program was to encourage and support the development and implementation of innovative ideas promoting quality teaching and research, and valuable community services.  Submissions for either small self-contained projects, or seeding for projects with the potential to be developed into larger projects, were invited from the faculty of the CES.  The focus of the scheme was on innovation and tangible outcomes and deliverables.

Aim of the Workshop and Final Note  Present the results from the different projects  Exchange ideas to strengthen collaboration among faculty  Discuss ways to enhance or modify the current scheme.  As such, your presence is very important during the last session of this workshop: the open discussion.  Your input through the survey is also extremely valuable.
