Presentation transcript:

This stuff’s the future, son. Presented by Pat, James, Andrew, Kevin, and Afeique

 Over 3.3 billion cell phone subscriptions!  People starting to and surf exclusively from phones  Better chips allows phones to do more!  And of course, you get cooler designs to go with your wizard’s hat and robe.  Read More… Read More…

 Currently, entire market is dictated by service providers  Shifting towards paradigm where providers just give you the connection  Cell-phones becoming more and more OS and computer-like because of shift  Moving towards greater support for 3 rd party applications

 No industry definition for a “smartphone”  Most smartphones are mobile PC-like devices with the integrated features of cell phones  All phones are slowly becoming “smart”  Many corporations utilize smartphones to help keep employees better connected

 Smartphones (“phones that can do more”) started with the IBM Simon in  Simon had: calendar, address book, world clock, calculator, notepad, , and games  Nokia quickly began producing their own smartphones, the Nokia 9000 series

 Started as a two-way pager  Made it big because of its strong application  Very handy calendar and address-book features  Development platform allows for countless other applications.  Over 8 million subscribers and 17% market share.

 Essentially a mobile PC.  Runs an intuitive interface utilizing a touchscreen.  And yes, it can make calls too.  Development platform + ubiquity = lots of other applications  (gcc on iPhone ftw)
