PEACH BLOSSOM FESTIVAL California State University, Fresno

The purpose of the Peach Blossom Festival is to expose children to oral interpretations and allow them to have a positive experience at Fresno State.

The children that attend are from all areas of the Central Valley and may someday be students here.

PEACH BLOSSOM HISTORY The festival was started fifty years ago as a joint effort between the Speech Communication and Theater Arts Departments at CSU, Fresno. The Festival was created to help young people realize the importance of reading literature aloud, to teach them about interpretation, performance, how to be an audience member and to give them an opportunity to visit a university campus.

EVALUATIONS The Peach Blossom Festival is run strictly as a festival, not as a contest. Entrants will be evaluated on the basis of their artistic performance, but not ranked against other schools.

GENERAL INFORMATION Participation is limited to students in grades 1 – 6 (First through sixth). Ten (10) is the maximum number of total entries from each school. (we do have a wait list for additional choral groups if room becomes available.

GENERAL INFORMATION Only 1 (one) large group per school will be allowed. Large Group size is limited to thirty-five (35) students. Three Small Groups are allowed per school. Small groups are 4 to 9 students.

GENERAL INFORMATION Students may not participate as both individual and chorus entries. (entries may be in different rooms, performing at the same time) Materials may be memorized or read. Presentations in foreign languages are acceptable as long as both the foreign and English selections are completed within the five (5) minute time allowance.

GENERAL INFORMATION Each school is responsible for providing transportation for their participants. The University does not close for the Festival, so please prepare your children (and parents) to be respectful of classes that are in session.

EVALUATIONS Choose selections that allow the children to “bring to life” their pieces through their voice and gestures. Participants will be judged on eye contact, voice quality, body movement, and overall performance. Also students will be judged on the age appropriateness of their selections (e.g. students in 6th grade should have more difficult selections than students in 2nd grade).

REGISTRATION Registration forms can be downloaded from our website: and can be mailed or faxed to our officehttp:// We operate on a “first come, first serve” basis, so get those forms in as early as possible so as to reserve the time and date that works best for your school

FEES: Solos: $5 Duos or Trios: $6 Small Group (4-9 students): $15 Large Group (10 or more students) $2 per student All fees must accompany the registration forms Payments may be made in check, cash, or money orders
