CSTAR – Experiences from Past Collaborative Projects and Future Expectations Jonathan Blaes October, 2010 CSTAR Kickoff Workshop

Lessons learned from past collaborative projects from WFOs More regular comments/updates/exchanges between PIs and WFOs is needed – quarterly meetings at NCSU was mentioned in the proposal. Several offices mentioned that without updates, an out of sight/out of mind scenario set up. Identify ways that WFO’s can contribute for each project, they want to help, just need to be given instruction and opportunity.

Lessons learned from past collaborative projects from WFOs A timeline highlighting the goals and expectations for each of the projects would be helpful Recruit collaborative investigators at the WFOs to provide regular input and support – long list of interested people has been generated.

Planned Communication and R2O (from the proposal) Utilize collaborative investigators Recorded presentations Student and PI visits to NWS regional offices Regularly scheduled interactions between university and NWS Quarterly meetings at NCSU including faculty, PIs, students, and NWS Additional workshops and presentations
