Earth’s Atmosphere The Earth is surrounded by a blanket of air called the atmosphere. It extends over 372 miles (560 kilometers) from the surface of Earth.
Our Atmosphere Our atmosphere helps us in two very important ways. –It acts as a blanket by holding in the amount of heat needed to keep earth livable.

Task 2: Atmosphere Name: Ronda Yuen Subject: MLIM6323

All planets have an atmosphere The Sun’s atmosphere is made up of hydrogen. The Earth’s atmosphere is made up of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, ozone and other gases.

Layers of Atmosphere Please click the icon to access the movie about the layers of Atmosphere.

Layers of Atmosphere Troposphere: contains water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane and others. associate with weather. extend up to 10 miles above Earth’s surface. Stratrosphere: includes the ozone layer. ozone molecules absorb ultraviolet radiation from the Sun. extend about 10 to 30 miles above Earth’s surface. Mesosphere: the coldest part of the atmosphere. extend up to 30 to 50 miles above Earth’s surface. Thermosphere: Temperatures can reach up to several thousand degrees Fahrenheit. extend about 50 to 180 miles above Earth’s surface. Exosphere Exosphere: the outermost layer of the atmosphere. the transition zone into space. extend to 500 miles above Earth’s surface.
