Tom Longstreth, Executive Director Team 1: Site prep and demo/deconstruction Team 2: Site layout, parking, stormwater

Team 3: New building design Team 4: New building design/interior Team 5: Historic building renovation

The site is located on Pine Street in Burlington, VT

Site Overview Soil Contamination: Petroleum contaminated soil excavated and treated thru soil vapor extraction Contamination found during construction, Phase II investigation required (EPA) Stormwater: Existing problems - current system is not fully connected, drains need to be dredged before construction Existing Building:

Stormwater Existing system is not fully connected, drains need to be dredged During construction reduce sediment transport, and erosion using BMPs (silt fences) Parking lot runoff – permeable asphalt and underground storage

Parking Challenges

New Building Objectives Site Selection; Meeting Regulations; Green Design; Energy Efficient; Worker Comfort & Safety; Cost Effective. Architect’s early rendition

First Floor Layout Uses: Retail Space Connected to existing buildings

Second Floor Layout Uses: Appliance & Computer Repair Carpentry Shop Offices Conference Rooms Classrooms Event Space

2 ND FLOOR FRAMING PLAN

Footing and Slab Layout

Heating and Ventilation Reduce energy costs Use Energy-10 Software

Green Design Solar Hot Water Green Roof Energy efficient Clean air and water Storm water flow Extend the life of the roof Aesthetics Greenspace

Historic Building Renovation Scope of Project: Restore building to functional use while maintaining historic integrity.

Historic Building Renovation While structurally sound the Building needs Roof repair / replacement Facade renovation Interior work

Summary The Recycle North project was a complex multi- faceted project with many issues and challenges. Uncertainty over ultimate placement of Southern Connector presents difficulty in site planning. Project will show stakeholder all the engineering aspects that need to be considered in the design of a new building. There is still missing information. Different site and building alternatives should still be considered. This was one option of many.
