 A Web site that contains dated text entries in reverse chronological order (most recent first) about a particular topic. Blogs serve many purposes from online newsletters to personal journals to "ranting and raving." They can be written by one person or a group of contributors. Entries contain commentary and links to other Web sites, and images as well as a search facility may be included. Blogs may also contain video. 

 Generic term for a full-length movie or a short movie clip. It can refer to an analog VHS videotape, to a digital format such as a DVD disc or to a computer file (WMV, AVI, MPEG, DivX, etc.). Prior to the 1990s, the term implied that an analog TV set or monitor (TV without tuner) was used for viewing. Since then, movies can be created in digital camcorders and played on computers without ever being turned into the traditional analog NTSC TV/video format. 

 An authoritative report on a topic. There are countless white papers on technology subjects written by vendors, research firms and consultants. Many are now available on the Web. 

 To receive a file transmitted over a network. In any communications session, "download" means receive, and "upload" means send. The download/upload often implies a big/little scenario, in which data is being downloaded from the "big" server into the "little" user's computer. Uploading implies sending data from the little computer to the big computer. The time it takes to download data depends on the size of the file and network speed. Via the standard V.92 analog dial-up modem, small Web pages take a few seconds if everything is running smoothly, but a 20MB video file can take an hour. Downloading over a DSL or cable modem can be 15 to 400 times as fast. Downloading from a file server on a local network (LAN) can even be faster. 

 A critical article or report, as in a periodical, on a book, play, recital, or the like; critique; evaluation. 

 An audio broadcast that has been converted to an MP3 file or other audio file format for playback in a digital music player or computer. The "pod" in podcast was coined from "iPod," the predominant portable, digital music player, and although podcasts are mostly verbal, they may contain music 

 To send live audio or video programming over the Web. It is the Internet counterpart to traditional radio and TV broadcasting.  st
