GLORIFICATION OF “WOMEN WARRIORS” ?  Forbis – Hacia la Autonomia: Zapatista Women Developing a New World  Rojas – Indigenous Autonomy in Chiapas: The Women are Missing  Bendregal – Chiapas: Considerations from Our Feminist Point of View

Chiapas: Considerations from our Feminist Point of View by Ximena Bedregal

FEMINISM IS FUNDAMENTALLY PACIFIST & ANTI-WAR  WAR HAS BEEN THE MAINSTAY OF POWER & PATRIARCHAL DOMINATION—A MAN’S THING  THE MILITARY BARS EFFEMINATE, WEAKLING, & COWARDLY MEN,  THOSE WHO DON’T OBEY  WEAPONS SYMBOLIZE AN ERECT EJACULATING PHALLUS

 FEMINISM IS A GREAT ACT OF REBELLION, BORN OF WOMEN BUT AFFECTING EVERYONE  MAYANS IN CHIAPAS ARE LIKE WOMEN, THE “OTHER,” INVISIBLE, SILENCED, OPPRESSED  THEY ARE TREATED AS LEGAL MINORS WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND  IT IS THAT INVISIBILITY AGAINST WHICH MAYAN PEOPLE REBELLED

YET, THE ZAPATISTA REBELLION IS PATRIARCHAL  IT STRENGTHENS THE IDEA THAT VIOLENCE CAN ONLY BE OPPOSED WITH VIOLENCE  IT SAW KILLING AS ETHICALLY CORRECT

THE REVOLUTIONARY LAW FOR WOMEN IS NOT FEMINIST  “IS IT A PRODUCT OF WOMEN FACE TO FACE WITH PATRIARCHAL, VIOLENT CUSTOMS?”  “DOES IT RESULT FROM WOMEN LEADERS BEING FACED BY THE NECESSITY OF INCORPORATING WOMEN INTO TRADITIONALLY MASCULINE TASKS?”

 INCORPORATING WOMEN INTO THE REGULAR WAR APPARATUS DOES NOT SEEM A SUCCESS BECAUSE HAVING FEMALE GUERRILLAS DOES NOT CHANGE THE ETHIC OF WAR  AN IMAGE OF WOMEN DRESSED IN UNIFORM & CARRYING A WEAPON IS EVOCATIVE, BUT IT IMPLIES INCORPORATING THEM INTO INSTITUTIONS THAT SUPPORT DOMINATION

 THAT WOMEN MAY CHOOSE WITH WHOM THEY MARRY & IF THEY WISH TO MARRY MAY BE THE MOST REVOLUTIONARY OF THE PROPOSALS BECAUSE IT MOST STRONGLY AFFECTS TRADITIONS OF DOMINION & PROPERTY OVER WOMEN’S BODIES
