1 John: 1 John: John's method of Detecting Error & Truth In his letter John gives three tests to determine a genuine born again Christian. Heart test - Obedient to God's commands "If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth" (1 John 1:6).
