PT3 MENTORING PLAN BY ANGIE TSINGINE

PEOPLE Who will I be mentoring? Student teachers and continuing new teachers.

How do I establish a working relationship with them? Initial meeting with student teacher prior to beginning in the classroom asking them what are their objectives and expectations. What they see as their strengths and weakness? I will then related my goals and expectations required for a successful student teaching experience. I don't expect them to know everything but they ask questions and for help.

Who else will be working with the same people? Grade level teachers, department head, primary office staff (secretary, home liaison), janitors, principal, counselor, special area teachers (computer, P.E., librarian, culture teacher) special education staff (resource teacher), dormitory staff, cafeteria staff, gifted & talented teacher, Indian Health Service, maintenance staff, bus drivers and parents.

What relationships need to be established between these people? These people are resources who are important to the learning environment in helping meet the specific needs of each individual student.

How do I get in touch and keep in touch with these people? Develop a list of resource people using addresses, phone numbers, and personally meeting with each person/group.

Who can help with procedural and administrative issues? Department head, primary secretary, principal's secretary, and principal.

Who can help with instructional issues? Grade level teachers, university supervising teacher, department head, and other master teachers.

Who can help with technology issues? Computer teachers with in the school and media technician. Anyone who is capable of offering their expertise and NAU PT3 instructors.

TECHNOLOGY What technology and technological resources are available at my site? For me? For the person(s) I mentor? I have one classroom computer hooked up to the internet for our use. At our school we have access to two computer labs for teacher use.

Who has access to these resources? All faculty and students with supervision.

Are there any restrictions to access? The main computer lab is open only if the computer teacher opens it during the working day.

Who is available to assist technology users? Computer teacher, other knowledgeable faculty, and some students.

RESOURCES What instructional resources do I need? What does the person I mentor need? What might their students need? We need more computers in the classroom for student use. At our school we need a computer teacher in each computer lab who is patient with young learners. We also need a minimum of 2 computer technicians to assist with troubleshooting in the classrooms. We also need computers in the library with a librarian who is familiar with updating the library into the 21st century.

Where are the resources I need located? Who can help me find resources? One computer lab is located in the middle of campus where the only computer teacher is located. The primary lab use to be located in the main primary building. Now it is a question where it will be and how soon it will be in use. I am trusting some colleagues to help find instructional resources and our PT3 staff.
