An analysis of the character from ‘Much Ado About Nothing.’ DON PEDRO An analysis of the character from ‘Much Ado About Nothing.’ By Harpal and Raees

‘Well spirited lady.’ Don Pedro is… Kind Don Pedro describes Beatrice as a… ‘Well spirited lady.’

Don Pedro is… Kind Don Pedro describes Beatrice as a ‘Well spirited lady.’ Analysis – Pedro see’s through Beatrice’s lip and considers her to be ‘spirited.’ This tells us that Pedro is kind as he complements Beatrice, proving he respects her and is friendly towards her and others.

Don Pedro is… Judgemental Pedro says he would feel terrible if he were… ‘To link my friend to a common stale.’

Don Pedro is… Judgemental Pedro has been tricked by Don John, and this quote tells us that he is too quick to judge Hero, as he does so wrongly. This quote also proves Don Pedro can be spiteful and harsh, as he has publically shamed/downgraded Hero wrongly. This also tells us he is disgusted that he might have had a role in ‘linking’ (joining) Claudio and Hero, and wishes to clear his name.

Don Pedro is… Loyal Don Pedro tells Claudio he… ‘Will assume thy part in some disguise, and tell fair Hero I am Claudio.’

Don Pedro is… Loyal This quote proves that Don Pedro is trustworthy and loyal to Claudio. It also shows that he is full of ideas and willing to go through with them for the pleasure of his friends.

Don Pedro is… Deceiving He plans to bring Beatrice and Benedick… ‘Into a mountain of affection th’one with th’other.’

Don Pedro is… Deceiving This quote talks about the theme of deception in a positive way, as we want Beatrice and Benedick to fall in love. It proves Pedro is deceiving, but does so with the best intentions. He does this partly for the satisfaction, but also because he believes Benedick and Beatrice should be together. This could make Don Pedro appear kind, caring and helpful as he wants to aid others in their happiness. This could also mean he is a bit of a deceiving meddler.

Don Pedro is… Noble and Respected Claudio calls Pedro… ‘Prince.’

Don Pedro is… Noble and Respected Don Pedro has the respect of others. He has a high ranking. This is proved when Leonato is excited when Antonio tells him Pedro is proposing to Hero. People look up to Pedro. People are in awe of Pedro and see him as a worthy ally.

Don Pedro is… Willing to help others Pedro tells Beatrice that… ‘I will find thee a husband.’

Don Pedro is… Willing to help others The fact that Pedro gives himself the task of providing Beatrice a husband proves he is willing to go out of his way to help others. ‘Will’ – This word acts as a promise, as Pedro promises he will carry out the task of finding Beatrice a husband himself. As he has a higher rank than Beatrice it is surprising he is willing to do this, and this emphasises how helpful he is willing to be.

Don Pedro is… Manipulative Pedro tells Claudio that he’ll… ‘tell fair hero I am Claudio And in her bosom I’ll unclasp my heart…’

Don Pedro is… Manipulative The fact that Don Pedro gives himself the talk of wooing Hero over shows that he know he is manipulative. ‘unclasp’- presents that Don Pedro is going to release Claudio’s affection for Hero and even though Don Pedro does not love Hero he can manipulate Hero to think he is Claudio and woo her over for him. To add to this Don Pedro presents himself as a strong character conveying him as manipulative.

Benedick tell Don Pedro that the prince must… Don Pedro is… Selfless Benedick tell Don Pedro that the prince must… “get thee a wife”

Don Pedro is… Selfless This presents that in al the commotion of getting Beatrice and Benedick together and wooing Hero over, Don Pedro himself has not had a chance to think of himself and get himself happiness. The quote presents that even thought Don Pedro can get a wife due to all the power he is give, he choses not to as he put forward other peoples happiness before his, which presents that Do Pedro is a selfless character.

‘I will join with thee to disgrace her.’ Don Pedro is… Gullible Don Pedro tells his brother Don John… ‘I will join with thee to disgrace her.’

Don Pedro is… Gullible This presents that Don Pedro is very gullible and that he cannot look through his brother devilish schemes which conveys him as a person who is quick to believe evil. ‘disgrace’ – portrays that he will take away Hero’s rights as a women and will make her useless to any man, this shows us that Don Pedro is very gullible and does not think a lot before he acts as he knew that Hero wouldn’t do such a thing but he cannot see that as he is very gulliable and quick to judge.

‘your grace is to costly to wear every day.’ Don Pedro is… Powerful Beatrice says to Do Pedro… ‘your grace is to costly to wear every day.’

Don Pedro is… Powerful Don Pedro is portrayed as a very powerful and noble character as he is very well respected and treated is society. ‘Grace’ – presents that Don Pedro is well respected and greeted in society ‘Costly’ –exhibits that Don Pedro is rich and powerful The quote shows that Beatrice cannot take Don Pedro’s hand in marriage as he is a very well respected and powerful person and that it seems that Beatrice finds Don Pedro to rich and powerful to take his hand In marriage.
