Tau Beta Pi - MindSET Michigan Gamma Chapter

What is MindSET MindSET Mathematics Science Engineering Technology It is a K-12 outreach project focusing on STEM education

Why is it important Math education in the country in poor condition Spending per student slashed due to budget cuts Science and Technology education key to maintain global competitive edge

MindSET Features Takes a kinesthetic learning approach Math related to engineering concepts Mentorship coming through some of the brightest minds in engineering Teacher and parent development component

MindSET Format Every ‘Module’ has… All in all, 3 hours of fun for everyone on a beautiful Saturday morning!

What’s been done till now Project approval and some $$ from Nationals Module topics and dates for Fall finalized Partnership with four A2 elementary schools –Allen, Carpenter, Mitchell, Pittsfield Chapter Implementation Team (CIT) formed –Logistics, Publicity, Website, Inter-society collaboration, Module development, Funding

What needs to be done CIT position of ‘Publicity in-charge’ needs to be filled Preparation for Fall modules Collecting baseline data of academic performance in participating schools Electee/Actives/Officer participation in modules Teacher Development sessions Expand the project to more grade levels and schools in A2 and Ypsi

What’s in it for me?! Well…it’s a lot of fun! The satisfaction of making a difference in a kid’s education process is immense You’ll refresh your basic concepts from other engineering disciplines Mentoring experience – working with of this age will increase your patience A ‘connect’ between our generation and the next is maintained Attending at least one 3 hour MindSET session required for initiation
