Student A Fourth grade male student Formally home schooled Low self esteem and confidence Absent or tardy at least three days a week Visual and hands on learner Pre assessed at the third grade spelling level

Student B Fourth grade Hispanic student Very independent Low self esteem and confidence Great memory Hands on and visual learner Pre assessed at the second grade spelling level

Strategy One Think of the number of letters in the word Then think of an acronym for the word For example…….

o Remember the word starts with the first two letters of your name!!! o Then remember the phrase… o So o We’re o Extremely o Rotten Keep it up

Turn it into a little tune Think of a catchy tune Look at the word to see if it has double letters For example…….

Now Let’s Spell the word “address” You did it!!!!

Look for words you already know Look for small words inside of you spelling words Make sure you know how to spell those words correctly For example…..

Both students spelling has improved Student A now is at fourth grade spelling level Student B is now at beginning third grade spelling level Both students are now well prepared for spelling tests Grades have improved Self advocacy
