Parentheses - This is the first step in the order of operations - Look at the following problem on how to solve parentheses - Ex. 100/2 - (36/6) + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 2^3 Return to Main Menu

Exponent -This is the second step in the order of operations -After solving the parentheses then you could solve exponents - Look at the following problem on how to solve exponents - Ex. 100/2 - (36/6) + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 8 Return to Main Menu

Multiplication - This is the third step in the order of operation - After solving the exponents then you could solve your multiplication problem - Look at the following problem on how to solve for multiplication - Ex. 100/2 - (36/6) + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 8 100/2 - 6 + 24 Return to Main Menu

Division - This is the fourth step in the order of operations - After solving the multiplication problem then you could solve your division problem - Look at the following problem on how to solve for division - Ex. 100/2 - (36/6) + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 8 100/2 - 6 + 24 50 - 6 + 24 Return to Main Menu

Addition - This is the fifth step in the order of operations - After solving the division problem then you could solve your addition problem - Look at the following problem on how to solve for addition - Ex. 100/2 - (36/6) + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 8 100/2 - 6 + 24 50 - 6 + 24 50 - 30 Return to Main Menu

Subtraction -This is the sixth and final step in the order of operations - After solving the addition problem then you could solve your subtraction problem - Look at the following problem on how to solve for subtraction - Ex. 100/2 - (36/6) + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 2^3 100/2 - 6 + 3 x 8 100/2 - 6 + 24 50 - 6 + 24 50 - 30 20 Return to Main Menu

Practice Problem -Try to solve this order of operations problem -Ex. Problem5^2 + 10 x (8 /4) - 15/3 Parentheses5^2 + 10 x 2 - 15/3 Exponents25 + 10 x 2 - 15/3 Multiplication25 + 20 - 15/3 Division25 + 20 - 5 Addition45 - 5 Subtraction40 Final Answer 5^2 + 10 x (8/4) - 15/3 = 40 Return to Main Menu

Review Question Solve the following order of operations problem: 2 x (8 + 4 x 3) + 5^2 - 21/7 A. 94 B. 62 C. 82

Sorry 94 is not the correct answer Please go back and try again Make sure you are using the order of operations correctly Back to Question

That is Correct! Great Work! 62 is the correct answer when properly using the order of operations Click to Continue

Sorry 82 is not the correct answer Please go back and try again Make sure you are using the order of operations correctly Back to Question
