 What are virtual tours?  How can virtual tours be used in an educational setting?  Why use virtual tours?  How is an educational virtual tour designed?

 Virtual Tours (VT) are an inexpensive way to experience numerous aspects of the “world” without actually being there  VT planning does take time, but a VT can be used in segments, in it’s entirety, utilized in the future and/or edited as necessary to meet other needs  Article: “Grounded” from Edutopia, 10/05Grounded

 On-site field trips are becoming a thing of the past due to … Funding Time away from instruction/classroom Focus on testing Transportation Supervision/chaperones Curriculum demands ???

 As a teaching resource for professor  As an introduction to a particular area of study through incorporation into course content  As an expansion of the general knowledge pertaining to an area of study: History/Literature History/Literature  As a preparation to a travel course: Science Science

 Content  Literacy level  Standards  Validity, credibility, and accuracy  Current and up-to-date

 You may use a variety of tools to create your tour, including but not limited to: ● PowerPoint● Keynote ● Windows Movie Maker● iMovie/iDVD ● Audacity ● Photo Story 3 ● Nvu or KompoZer ● Photoshop

 No one tool is "better" than another  Use what works best for your tour design and audience needs  Possible media: still photos, panoramic photos, 360 photos, movie clips, audio clips and/or voice over, links to related online sites, scanned items (i.e. maps, news articles, brochures, etc.), slide show, etc.
