2. What is Windows Live Movie Maker? Windows Live Movie Maker is a basic video editing application that is available to all users of Windows 7 or newer Microsoft computers.

4. Target Audience This training is for students at OMS to learn to use Movie Maker technology.

7. Make sure to create a new folder in your computer folder and make it Movie Maker

9. 9 Before proceeding with it is recommended that you do the following: Identify, sort, and save all the files you'll be using in a single file folder, preferably with separate sub-folders for images, videos, sound effects, music, etc. When the files have already been imported to a Movie Maker Project file (*.wlmp), DO NOT move these files to other locations. DO NOT move the main file folder (and sub-folders) of the imported files in the project. Avoid re-naming imported files. Movie Maker 'remembers' the last known location of all the imported files - so any changes with the file locations, or even file names would lead to missing files in a project.

13. SAVE YOUR PROJECT OFTEN As a good practice, it is recommended to save the project file now and frequently throughout the creation process Click the File Menu icon at the top-left corner Select Save Project As Choose the folder location to be saved Type in the file name and click Save 13

14. SAVE YOUR PROJECT OFTEN A note about project files: Project files are different than the final video file Project files are the incomplete product and will not play in a video player Video files are the final product and are not editable Video files will play in a video player

15. IMPORTING PICTURES AND VIDEOS Pictures and video clips can be imported by clicking the Add videos and photos button on the Home tab Locate the file folder Select all the files to be used for the project Click Open; the files will be imported to the storyboard

16. ADD VIDEOS AND PHOTOS Click the Home tab and then click Add Videos and Photos. Now browse storage device, select the file(s) you would like to import, and click Open.

18. If you use outside images, make sure you have a credits slide with source used. You can use PowerPoint as a Credit maker for your images. You can save the slide or slides as Jpeg. 20. MOVING FILES IN THE STORYBOARD Move the images and videos according to the order you want them to appear in the movie by manually dragging the thumbnails

21. EDITING PHOTOS There is only one editing option for images in Movie Maker That option is to adjust the time duration of the image in the storyboard This will dictate how long a picture will appear in the movie

EDITING PHOTOS To edit the time duration of images, select a particular image Click Edit below Video Tools (highlighted in yellow) above the ribbon Set the desired time duration (in seconds) either by: –choosing one of the pre-set time durations in the drop-down menu; OR –type in the exact time duration Time durations can be as low as 0.03 sec., up to 84,000 sec.

24. EDITING VIDEOS To edit videos, select a particular video clip Click Edit below Video Tools (highlighted in yellow) above the ribbon The video editing tools include: –Audio adjustments –Video speed –Split tool –Trim tool

IMPORTING MUSIC If you are making a music video-type project, you should import the music file(s) now The length of the music will dictate how long the images/videos are shown To add music file(s), click the Add music button and follow the steps on the previous slide I have a folder in the R Drive: Resources: Teachers: Rehagen: Rehagen Handout Sound Files. 28. IMPORTING MUSIC The music will appear as a bar above the images

29. AUDIO ADJUSTMENTS These include: –Video volume adjustment (no sound to full sound) –Fade in and Fade out speed selection (none, slow, medium, fast) Audio adjustments

30. EDITING MUSIC Music files have editing options similar with those of videos These can be found under Music Tools (highlighted in green) above the ribbon The music-editing options include: –Audio settings─ Split tool –Set start time─ Set start/end point

31. AUDIO SETTINGS These settings include Music volume adjustment (no sound to full sound) and Fade in and Fade out speed selection (none, slow, medium, fast)

32. SPLIT TOOL The split tool enables you to split your music into two or more segments Do this by moving the vertical black bar to the specific point/time you'd like the video to be split Then click the Split icon

33. SET START TIME This setting allows you to set the point in the storyboard when you'd like the music to start playing. You may do this by either typing in the exact start time or clicking the up and down arrows.

34. SET START/END POINT This setting is an exact equivalent of the Trim Tool This enables trimming of the selected music so it starts/ends at the specified point in the storyboard

35. VIDEO SPEED Use the video speed to create: –dramatic "slow-mo" effects as slow as 0.125 times normal speed –"high-speed, fast-paced" action scenes with playback speeds as high as 64 times normal speed Video speed

36. SPLIT TOOL The split tool enables you to split your video into two or more segments Do this by moving the vertical black bar to the specific point/time you'd like the video to be split Then click the Split icon.

38. TRIM TOOL The trim tool allows you to remove certain parts of the video and/or to specify the starting and end points of the video. You can do this by following either of these two methods:

39. TRIM METHOD 1 Manually move/drag the vertical black bar to the specific point/time you'd like the video to start Then click on Set start point to trim the video at the specified point Do the same to set the end point, clicking Set end point

SAVING THE MOVIE On the Home tab, click on the down arrow under the Save movie icon Select the quality of the movie to be saved (either the recommended setting for the project, for high-definition display, burn for CD, for computer, email, mobile devices, or even set your own custom quality settings) Type in the file name and click Save

45. SAVING THE MOVIE The movie will be saved in the default Windows Media Video File (*.wmv) You may need other video converter programs if you want to have your movie in other video file formats

46. SHARING YOUR MOVIE Movie Maker allows you to share your movie directly from your project file to online video-hosting sites like YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, SkyDrive, Vimeo, etc. Simply click the icon of the site you'd like to upload your movie to choose the quality settings of the movie Movie Maker will save it (again) and upload it to the specified site
