What is it? Provides support, additional benefits and enhanced skills development to high achieving students Most experiences are exclusive to Honours College students and have been developed to foster intellectual curiosity, leadership, collaboration, civic engagement and development of research and relevant professional work skills Develops the leaders of tomorrow and allows them to be distinct from their peers Will produce highly sought after graduates with the specialist knowledge and broad management competencies to become the CEO’s, researchers, educators, creators and community leaders of the 21 st century Aims to position Griffith as an attractive destination for high achieving students Griffith Honours College

What are the Benefits? Honours College students benefit from a unique educational experience Challenges – elective courses tailored for high achieving students and only available to those in the Honours College Personal Attention – regular sessions with a mentor and academic advisor to give students guidance throughout their university years and steer students towards their career goals Collaboration – share ideas and work with leading Griffith researchers, academics and other high achieving students across a number of disciplines Griffith Honours College

What are the Benefits? The Honours College Experience Elective Courses: specifically designed for Honours College students Some compulsory and some optional activities, allow for a minimum of hours during each Semester Mentoring and Academic Advisement Leadership Development Series Professional work experience, Internships and Exchanges – both local and international Community Engagement opportunities Honours College self development and networking activities Griffith Honours College

Virtual Faculty The Virtual Faculty is made up of high calibre academics who are innovative and creative thinkers In the future will have industry representation to meet the needs of business Will oversee curriculum development There is also a Honours College Student Advisory Group which provides a student representative to interact with the Virtual Faculty and contribute to future strategies for the cohort Griffith Honours College

Applying for the Honours College Entry is highly competitive, admission is available to school leavers and non-school leavers who are undertaking their first undergraduate degree program Applicants need to have Griffith University as a preference on their QTAC/UAC application. Applicants need to complete a Sir Samuel Griffith / Honours College application form and submit by the due date Second year and more advanced university students can apply for entry to the College each year. These applicants need to have a cumulative GPA 6.5 and be recommended by their Head of School Griffith Honours College

Key Dates and Selection Criteria Applications open Monday 4 August 2008 Applications close Friday 28 November 2008 Selection based on: –Academic – likely to be in the OP1-3 range however OP4-6 range encouraged to apply as References, Academic Prizes & Awards are taken into consideration –Leadership – should have demonstrated skills or demonstrated leadership potential –Community – should be active in the School and wider community e.g. sports, community work, clubs etc Griffith Honours College
